Below are some important details about our OrbitProtect insurance cover for Working Holiday visa holders in New Zealand. If your question isn’t answered below, please visit our Help Centre.

The OrbitProtect Working Holiday Insurance plan provides cover for working holiday visa holders in New Zealand.

If you intend to travel from New Zealand to countries in the South-West Pacific, we provide cover for up to 31 days to Australia, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

Medical Care
If you unexpectedly become ill or suffer an accident or injury, your policy has a provision to claim for this. We will pay for your doctor, hospital, and day care treatment costs, when they exceed the excesses that apply.

Medical Evacuation
In serious circumstances, as a result of injury or illness, you may need to be returned to your country of origin. At such a stressful time, we aim to provide support where possible by taking care of the costly expenses involved, allowing you to focus totally on what is most important – your recovery.

Pre-existing Medical Conditions
You are NOT automatically covered for pre-existing medical conditions. However, cover can be arranged in certain circumstances. Additional assessment fees and premiums would apply.

If you need cover for an existing medical condition, you will need to apply for pre-existing medical conditions cover, as you are NOT automatically covered. Subject to disclosure and approval by us, certain conditions may be covered. If approved, additional premiums may apply as may special terms and conditions.

If you require pre-existing medical conditions coverage, please contact us. You can email us at [email protected] or telephone 0800 478 833 (within NZ) or +64 3 434 8151 (outside of NZ). Our medical team will be in touch to assess if we can cover your existing medical condition. You will be charged an additional fee of NZ$45 for the assessment.

You will be notified of the outcome of the assessment via email.

Please note that should we accept your Working Holiday Insurance application to include the pre-existing medical conditions as part of your policy, we will provide cover for acute episodes of your condition only, not for any ongoing maintenance treatment of your condition (maintenance treatment means regular treatment/medication to keep your condition under control). Further terms and conditions may also apply.

Our Working Holiday Insurance plan does not provide automatic property cover. However, there are two options where you can insure your belongings.

Option 1 – General Baggage Cover
This option is a general cover for baggage and personal effects if you do not wish to specify individual high-value items. The general cover on baggage and personal effects option provides a cover limit of NZ$1,000 per item, pairs, or sets of items to a total of NZ$5,000. The additional premium under this option is 15% of the premium covering your Working Holiday Insurance period.

Option 2 – Specifying Your High-Value Items
This option allows you to specify the items you want to insure up to a maximum of NZ$10,000 per item and a total maximum value of $30,000. We will charge an additional premium of 2% of the total value of the items specified. For instance, if you specify a mobile phone valued at NZ$1000, the additional premium charged is NZ$20 (NZ$1,000 x 2%).

If you want insurance cover on specified property items, email [email protected] or phone 0800 478 833. The items you specify will be noted on your Certificate of Insurance.
