Seasonal Worker Insurance is available to anyone coming to New Zealand for seasonal work who does not hold New Zealand residence status. This plan is not limited to a specific visa type and can be suitable for those on visas such as the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
How long are you covered for?
Cancellation and loss of deposit cover starts from the day you pay your premium and we send your certificate of insurance.
All other benefits start from when you commence your journey to New Zealand. Generally, your cover will end either on your policy end date or when you leave New Zealand (whichever occurs first). Please see your policy document for more details.
Use the OrbitPay Card for a claims-free experience at registered GPs, Pharmacies, Dentists and More
If the policyholder needs to see a doctor, physio, dentist or pay for a prescription, it’s easy – they simply swipe their OrbitPay Card, just like a debit card to make payment.
To make sure the card is accepted, check that the medical provider is on our registered list.
If a registered OrbitPay provider is not available, the policyholder can visit any nearby clinic or pharmacy and pay as usual. They can then submit a claim through our online claims portal, or alternatively, you can assist them by requesting a refund on their behalf.

We’ve designed a series of translated health guides for RSE workers to support them to look after their health while they are in New Zealand. The guides cover common health issues these workers may experience while in New Zealand.
We recommend giving the policyholder a copy of the guide in their first language, as part of an information pack along with their OrbitPay card when they first arrive.

Below are some important details about our OrbitProtect insurance cover for RSE and Seasonal Workers in New Zealand.
If your question isn’t answered below, please visit our Help Centre.
Who is eligible?
RSE Protect is only available to those who hold, or are about to hold, a Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) limited visa. It also covers RSE workers who temporarily transition to a General Limited Visa while waiting to leave New Zealand.
Seasonal Worker Insurance is available to anyone coming to New Zealand for seasonal work who does not hold New Zealand residence status. This plan is not limited to a specific visa type and can be suitable for those on visas such as the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
What cover is provided?
Medical Care
If the policyholder unexpectedly becomes ill or suffer an accident or injury, we will pay for eligible doctor visits, hospital admissions, and treatment costs. The NZ Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) is the primary provider of cover for injuries that occur in New Zealand.
Medical Evacuation
In serious circumstances, as a result of injury or illness, the policyholder may need to return to their country of origin. During such a stressful time, we aim to provide support by covering the actual and reasonable expenses incurred, allowing them to focus entirely on their recovery.
Pre-existing Medical Conditions
The policyholder is NOT automatically covered for pre-existing medical conditions. However, cover can be arranged in certain circumstances. Additional assessment fees and premiums would apply.
How long is the policyholder covered for?
Cancellation and loss of deposit cover starts from the day you pay your premium and we send your certificate of insurance.
All other benefits start from when the policyholder commences their journey to New Zealand. Generally, their cover will end either on your policy end date or when they leave New Zealand (whichever occurs first). Please see the policy document for more details.
Is the policyholder covered for pre-existing medical conditions?
If cover is needed for an existing medical condition, you must apply for pre-existing medical conditions coverage, as the policyholder is NOT automatically covered. Subject to disclosure and approval by us, certain conditions may be covered. If approved, additional premiums may apply as may special terms and conditions.
If pre-existing medical conditions coverage is required, please contact us. You can email us at [email protected] or telephone 0800 478 833 (within NZ) or +64 3 434 8151 (outside of NZ) or alternatively you can contact your insurance broker. Our medical team will be in touch to assess if we can cover the existing medical condition.
You will be notified of the outcome of the assessment via email.
Please note that should we accept your RSE Protect Insurance application to include the pre-existing medical conditions as part of your policy, we will provide cover for acute episodes of your policyholder’s condition only, not for any ongoing maintenance treatment of their condition (maintenance treatment means regular treatment/medication to keep their condition under control). Further terms and conditions may also apply.
Is there cover for belongings and personal property?
Our RSE Protect plan does not provide automatic personal property cover. However, it does include cover for accidental loss of or damage of personal documents. If you’d like to insure other personal belongings, there are two options available:
Option 1 – General Baggage Cover
This option is a general cover on baggage and personal effects if you do not wish to specify individual high-value items. The general cover on baggage and personal effects option provides a cover limit of NZ$1,000 per item and NZ$5,000 in total. The additional premium charged under this option is 15% of the premium covering your insurance period.
Option 2 – Specifying Your High-Value Items
You can specify the items you want to insure up to a maximum of NZ$10,000 per item. We will charge an additional premium of 2% of the total value of the items specified. For instance, if you specify a mobile phone valued at NZ$1000, the additional premium charged is NZ$20 (NZ$1,000 x 2%).
If you want insurance coverage on specified property items, please contact us at [email protected] or your insurance broker. The items you specify will be noted on your Certificate of Insurance.
How much is the policy excess?
Excesses that apply to these plans.
An excess of $50 in total applies to any claim arising from a separate event.
No excess is payable on the below sections (refer to policy wording):
a. Medical Expenses Section 2 (1-10)
b. Early Return Home Section 3.3
