If you’re coming to New Zealand on a Parent Boost Visa, our Government requires you to have medical insurance while you’re here. This plan aligns with Immigration New Zealand health insurance requirements and has you covered for:

Immigration New Zealand introduced the Parent Boost Visa to strengthen family connections while easing the demand on New Zealand’s public health system. As part of this, Immigration New Zealand expect Parent Boost Visitor Visa holders to return to their home country for any medical treatment that is not essential to be carried out in New Zealand.

Are you eligible?
This plan is only available to Parent Boost Visa applicants who intend to temporarily reside in New Zealand.
How long are you covered for?
Your cover starts and ends on the dates you choose, and you’ll see those dates on your Certificate of Insurance. Your cover for medical and cancer treatment ends when you reach your benefit limit or your policy end date (whichever occurs first, unless stated otherwise in the policy document).
Waiting period
If you have purchased your policy before arriving in New Zealand, you can start claiming on this policy from the policy start date. However, you can’t claim events that began or existed before your policy start date.
If you are already in New Zealand, when you purchase your cover, a 72-hour waiting period applies from the time of purchase, regardless of your policy start date. This means you won’t be covered for any claims for anything that happens within the first 72 hours after buying your cover.

Am I eligible?
This policy is available to Parent Boost Visa applicants who intend to temporarily reside in New Zealand.
What would I be covered for?
This policy is designed to cover unexpected or emergency medical treatment while you’re in New Zealand. It supports you in serious health situations such as hospital visits, or surgery.
It does not cover day-to-day medical expenses like GP visits for minor or non-urgent conditions (e.g. coughs and colds), or any pre-existing conditions that were not disclosed, or were disclosed but not approved by us.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
Pre-existing conditions are not covered unless you declared them to us at the time of application and, after review, we have agreed to cover. You are not covered unless we confirm in writing on your Certificate of Insurance after payment of any additional premium.
Pre-existing conditions means
Conditions that exist prior to your policy start date. This includes any sign, symptom, or condition:
- that you are aware of; or
- that you are taking ongoing medication for; or
- medical attention or treatment has been sought, given,
- that a reasonable person in the same circumstances would be expected to be aware of, even if no formal diagnosis or treatment has yet occurred.
Am I covered for travel insurance, such as flight cancellations or lost luggage?
No, Parent Boost Insurance Plan is a medical insurance product designed to support parents visiting New Zealand for an extended period. It does not include travel insurance benefits such as flight delays, cancellations, missed connections, or lost, stolen or damaged luggage. If you’d like cover for those situations, you’ll need to purchase a separate travel insurance policy.
